What is floyd leroy patterson?

Floyd Leroy Patterson was an American professional boxer born on January 4th, 1935 in Waco, North Carolina. He began boxing at the young age of 14 and turned professional at 18. In 1956, he became the youngest heavyweight champion in history by defeating Archie Moore at the age of 21.

Patterson held the heavyweight title for a total of six years, defending it against opponents such as Ingemar Johansson and Sonny Liston. He lost his title to Liston in 1962 but eventually regained it in a 1963 rematch. Patterson ultimately lost his title again in 1965 to Muhammad Ali.

Outside of the ring, Patterson was known for his quiet personality and philanthropic efforts. He founded the Floyd Patterson Foundation, which aimed to help underprivileged children. Patterson passed away on May 11th, 2006 at the age of 71. He was posthumously inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1991.
